Maddie and Ty discover from Diana that one of The Passenger’s victims got away because he brought The Passenger to St. Christopher’s (the patron saint of travel) church. After The Passenger gets Diana, Maddie and Ty zoom off for the church, experiencing a few setbacks along the way.
Eventually, they end up finding symbols that lead them to the church and eventually find The Passenger. Maddie catches him in the lights of the van, where he burns. Maddie runs into him, driving him (on the hood) into the wooden church. The Passenger ends up pinned between the van and St. Christopher statue. The statue falls, giving Maddie the opportunity to impale The Passenger on St. Christopher’s staff. The Passenger starts melting—almost like Raiders of the Lost Ark—and then Maddie sets the church on fire.

Interesting that it’s not the sacred ground itself that kills The Passenger, but the statue.
