The Winchester Mystery House comes alive
There’s nothing like a Stephen King miniseries.
Most SK series are slow burns with building tension and not a lot of gore. The lack of gore doesn’t bother me – sometimes, it makes the film more impressive.
I wouldn’t call this series impressive, but I might call it clever.
If my research is correct, this is the first film based on the Winchester Mystery House. It doesn’t use that name, but it’s definitely based on the infamous Seattle mansion. That place is crawling with horror opportunities, and Rose Red takes advantage of all of it…as an early 2000s made-for-TV horror movie, that is.

Loathes
Ripe with jump scares.
There's some dread, much of it waiting for something to pop out.
Very little gore. The worst is bleeding from fingers that get chopped off.
The scariest things about this movie: the jump scares and maybe some of the makeup. There's little blood, though people do die (most of them off-camera, one has a heart attack). Older kids will see through the movie magic.
