Sheriff David hears glass crashing at the town’s funeral home and goes to check it out. He calls out for the proprietor – Jim – but he gets no response. With his gun raised, he investigates one of the back rooms where corpses are lying under white sheets. David silently and slowly moves the white sheet from one, revealing an older man with his eyes sewn shut with an X.
Then the corpse over is moving. David goes to look, revealing a priest with his eyes and mouth sewn shut. David finds a pair of scissors and cuts his mouth open. The guys says: “behind you.”
Well, there’s the doctor. The doc hits David with an IV pole. David goes down, fuzzy but still awake. The docs walks past and comes back with a bone saw. A fight ensues. The doc ends up cutting himself with it after being pushed away by David (cue blood spray), so the doc crashes to the floor with the bonesaw still on in his hand. The hand releases the bonesaw, which ends up “chasing” David. David quickly tries to back away, as the saw is inches from sawing through his testicles.
Except the saw’s cord is holding it back. The camera jumps to a boot on the cord, panning up to reveal Russell, who then unplugs the saw.
A pretty clever scene to use the bonesaw here. Interesting choice of weapon – not just the saw part, but the use of the cord in the fight scene.
