Russell seems like a nice guy and a good partner until he’s infected with the virus. There’s a scene where he gets a little mad, but then realizes he’s doomed, and sacrifices himself.

Realizing he’s infected, he uses himself as a decoy so David and Judy can get away. He goads the military to shooting him by walking towards them, despite orders to stop.
