The Ultimate Movie Pairing: Scream & Scary Movie

I am a fan of the ’90s, so of course, I’m a bit of a Scream purist.

I wasn’t happy when the franchise dumped Neve Campbell because they didn’t want to pay her, and it’s pretty fucking shitty they fired Melissa Barrera for not being able to express the very rational viewpoint that GENOCIDE IS BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

Somebody needs to get slapped over there.

It’s hard not to get excited about the return of my favorite Ghostface: Matthew Lillard. Okay and maybe Skeet Ulrich.

The OG Scream is really the first horror movie I became obsessed with. It was SO clever. Not only did it bring the slasher back in a whole new way (killing off big name celebs among them), it became the blueprint for meta horror.

I can’t quite remember the order of things, but Scary Movie and Scream 3 both came out in 2000. Scary Movie was another revelation to watch (ha!). So much of it is crude and stupid, but if you look close enough, it’s quite smart.

So when Scary Movie 6 was announced on the heels of Scream 7, I was ELATED. Yet here I am, waiting for them to hit VOD.

The only bummer is you can’t see the back-to-back. Imagine that Scary Scream? (Horror’s version of Barbenheimer) Now, I would have gotten out to see that.
