Historic Night at the Oscars for Horror

Wunmi Mosaku should have won a goddamn Oscar.

Historic Night at the Oscars for Horror

Little Me is a little shocked that the horror genre has come so far.

At the Oscars last night, horror movies took home 9 awards:

  • Best Actor: Michael B. Jordan in Sinners
  • Best Cinematography: Autumn Durald Arkapaw for Sinners
  • Best Original Score: Ludwig Goransson for Sinners
  • Best Production Design: Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau for Frankenstein
  • Best Original Screenplay: Ryan Coogler for Sinners
  • Best Makeup and Hairstyling: Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel and Cliona Furey for Frankenstein
  • Best Costume Design: Kate Hawley for Frankenstein
  • Best Animated Feature: KPop Demon Hunters
  • Best Supporting Actress: Amy Madigan for Weapons

And yes, I’m totally counting KPop Demon Hunters as a horror movie. IT HAS DEMONS!

Now, I do love Amy Madigan. I wasn’t a huge fan of Weapons as a horror movie, but Aunt Gladys is hilarious. I also loved Madigan from her many appearances in Stephen King’s miniseries, so I don’t want to take away from her win. Here’s the thing, though, white people will find a way to give it to anyone but a Black person, particularly an unapologetic Black woman. I’m not saying anything new or revolutionary. Just that Wunmi Mosaku should have won a goddamn Oscar.
