Hocus Pocus 2: How You Do a Sequel After 20 Years

Not only do I (mostly) hate movie versions of books, but I loathe remakes and sequels. Especially when they butcher movies I grew up loving.

And I grew up loving Hocus Pocus. LOVING IT. I was prime age – 3rd grade – when it came out. I watched it enough as a kid that I vividly remember scenes to this day.

The great thing about this movie is they know they’re making a sequel. It gives you the backstory of the Sanderson Sisters, one that makes you like them a bit more. There’s no Thora Burch, but the cast is filled with POCs, probably in big part to Bette Middler (who hates Trump more than life itself). And it felt authentic.

There are also lots of hidden gems and references to the 1993 version.
