Rotten Tomatoes 2019 Horror List: Abbreviated, Part II
Skipping around the list a little bit because some of these movies made me need to STOP watching for a while. What the fuck, horror community?! If I’m going to watch something that makes me stop watching shit for a while…it better be by conscious choice. Horror movies are a relief for me; it’s a chance to get far, far away from reality.
I mean, I’m already depressive, WHY MAKE IT WORSE? So you may see me just say “FUCK IT” and cancel a movie. I don’t need to be that committed to this list.
#18 Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Second time I’ve watched this one; I’m a little on the fence about it. It’s a little forced – the setup. I can understand why – you’re taking something that exists and stuffing it into a single universe.
You’re also talking to a ’90s kid who both loved and was scared shitless of those books. (They are the one book series EVER to give me nightmares.)
It hits me in the nostalgia, that’s for sure. The monsters are great movie versions of those line-drawings in the book. But the forced togetherness of the stories is the thing that leaves me on the fence.
#12 The Hole in the Ground
Second time, same recommendation: this is a good one to watch.
There are two movies that have this similar setup (of course I can’t think of the other’s name): Ireland, crazy old woman who wanders the street and stops in front of the single mom’s car…
Anyway. Just a weird reference for this movie.
The kid is eerie and creepy. The mom is good at playing scared. Not a novel premise, but a decent one, nevertheless; well-acted.
#11 Braid
No idea whatsoever what the fuck is going on with this movie. I shut this one off. Artsy and sexual…not my kind of horror.
