Haunt: The one I didn’t see coming
I have to admit, I did not expect anything that happened in this movie.
I’ve watched a couple of these “extreme” haunted house movies (several of the found-footage type), and I usually end up turning them off partially through the movie.
This is – by far – the best haunted-house movie I’ve ever seen. Not once did I have any idea of what was going to happen. Not fucking once. Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve been surprised by a movie? (OK, well, The Perfection.) And holy shit, the ending does not disappoint. This is one movie I won’t spoil for you.
What I will mention is that there are moments of gore – not gratuitous. You see the impact and then it cuts. But there’s kind of a torture to it; that’s essentially what the house is. A torture chamber. And while it’s produced by the guy who brought you all the torture horror movies, it’s nowhere near the type of gore you’d see in Saw or Hostel. And you spend most of the movie wondering WTF is going on; it’s a slow burn.
Recommended for folks who don’t mind a bit of gore for a great take on the real-haunted-house genre.
